Spring is not that far away, get prepared for what’s to come!

Believe it or not, spring is not that far away which means spring snapper!

Looking back over the past few years of fishing reports, the first influx of Spring snapper occurs early to mid October. That’s only a matter of weeks away. Until then making use of various, sometimes fleeting, weather windows means keeping an eye on the ever-changing nature of wind forecasts. Preparation and a bit of flexibility goes a long way to getting a solid fishing fix at the moment.

The full moon has just passed and there’s a possibility of a drop in wind speed on Sunday (from the west). It could be a good time to head out into the middle ground area. Hunt down some of those wonderful workups, albeit they can be a little fleeting at the moment. Or find a more sheltered area and bring the fish to you. Either way, snapper in particular are in hibernation mode now. The water temperature has dropped to 12°C in many places. Using smaller offerings with slower more easily attacked movement to lures and soft baits certainly helps catch more fish at this time of year.

If you can get out fishing, best of luck. If not, get into servicing that winterised tackle in preparation for what’s to come!

Cheers,

Espresso.
